CONGRATULATIONS!

MCCT is delighted to announce our 2022 Clayton Miller Scholarship recipients:

Sophia Choiniere & Brianna Bernhardt

Sophia Choiniere has been involved in musical theatre since the age of 5. She had her first experience at MCCT in 2018 when she was part of the Wizard of Oz production.  She continues to be a part of the performing arts on a local level. Sophia embraces any opportunity to be a part of MCCT productions as these experiences have contributed to her growth both on and off stage. She plans to attend Appalachian State University in the fall to study Paleontology with a minor in musical theatre.

Brianna Bernhardt got her start in musical theatre at 8 years old in MCCT’s production of Beauty and the Beast in 2013. Since then, she has been involved in multiple productions with MCCT, as well as other companies such as Activate Community Through Theatre, Davidson Community Players, and Mooresville High School from a performance and tech theatre level. Brianna’s growth with MCCT as a performer, leader, and person has provided her with many opportunities, such as studying Theatre at the North Carolina Governor’s School East in 2022, and receiving a Best Actress nomination through The Blumey Awards in 2022 and 2023. She values the lessons of cooperation, dedication, creativity, and accountability that MCCT has taught her, and she can’t wait to carry these principles with her throughout her college journey and beyond! Brianna will be attending North Carolina State University this fall to pursue Biological Sciences, with a minor in Theatre.

Our youth scholarship is named after Clayton Miller, the original founder of the Mooresville Community Theater, who gave his time, talent and treasure to bring theater to our town.  Clayton’s passion for theater will be carried on through this scholarship program.  You’re invited to help secure the longevity of this scholarship program.  With each production, our cast members and crew collect charitable donations at each concession table and all of our profits from concessions are 100% for our scholarships.  We believe the gift of theater for our students will benefit the community beyond the performance sector.  Our award recipients will take their dedication to theater,  and apply the same dedication and passion for the rest of their lives.

The Mooresville Community Children’s Theater (MCCT) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing theatre performance, production and viewing experiences for Mooresville and surrounding communities with an emphasis on including children ages 6 through 18 who have not been exposed to the world of Performing Arts.

All productions are FREE to audition, if cast there is a $90 participation fee.  This fee covers the actor’s materials, costumes, acting/vocal coaching and instruction, and t-shirt.

We realize that this participation fee may be a burden on some families, and we offer a limited number of Participation Fee scholarships so that youth have the opportunity to participate in this educational theatre experience.
